The Frigidaire EFIC108 is a compact portable ice maker that makes bullet ice. It fits easily on the kitchen countertop, and since it doesn’t need a water connection, it’s highly portable.
The Frigidaire EFIC108 makes 26lbs of ice per day, enough for most families. It makes regular cloudy bullet ice. If you are looking for a nugget or clear ice maker, this is not it.
Pros and Cons
- Compact and portable.
- It makes ice quickly – ready in 9 to 15 minutes.
- Beautiful modern design with multiple color options available.
- Great for trailers, RVs, boats, and other small spaces.
- Ice melts quickly in the bin.
- Ice pieces are small, even when you select the large size.
1. Portable Countertop Ice Maker
Portable ice makers are great if you want something affordable that won’t take up a lot of space in your kitchen.
The Frigidaire EFIC108 measures about 15” wide and 15” deep, so it’s perfect for small or crowded countertops.
The compact and relatively lightweight (it weighs 18lbs) design also makes the Frigidaire EFIC108 an excellent choice for RVs, trailers, and even camping. As long as you have an adequate power supply, you can make ice wherever you are.
2. 26lbs Production Capacity
The Frigidaire EFIC108 makes up to 26lbs of ice per day. The ice bin is rather small since it can only hold around 2.6lbs of ice which means you have to constantly empty it if you want a lot of ice. Otherwise, the ice maker will stop making more ice as soon as the bin fills up.
The Frigidaire EFIC108 makes hollow bullet ice, the kind that most portable ice makers produce. It’s not as hard as clear ice or as soft as nugget ice.
It’s ideal for use in margaritas, cocktails, juices, coffee, and other beverages.
3. Multiple Finish Options
We love the modern style of the Frigidaire EFIC108. It’sgot a beautiful finish and looks great on the countertop.
And if you don’t like a particular color, there are several others to choose from, including copper, red, white, black, and silver.
Another design feature we love is the clear window on top of the unit. It lets you watch the ice-making process and check whether the bin is full without opening the lid.
Issues and Concerns
Ice Melts Quickly
The Frigidaire EFIC108 makes small pieces of hollow bullet-shaped ice. Because of its size and low density, the ice melts rather quickly.
There’s an option to select a bigger ice size, but there’s barely any difference between the two sizes. Both are pretty small.
If you don’t want to dilute your drink, consider getting a clear ice maker instead. The FRIGIDAIRE EFIC452-SS is a good one.
Not Suitable for Large Families and Parties
26lbs of ice is just about enough ice for a small to medium size family. It’s not enough for a large family or a party.
If you don’t think 26lbs will be enough for your needs, get the Frigidaire EFIC115 instead. It makes up to 48lbs of ice per day, though it has the same small bin as the EFIC108.
Care and Maintenance
The only maintenance you need to do is clean the Frigidaire EFIC108 ice maker. Use a solution of vinegar and water to clean the inside and prevent mold growth. The reservoir has a drain plug at the bottom for easier cleaning.
For the outside, you can wipe clean with water and dish soap.
Note: The Frigidaire EFIC108 doesn’t have a self-clean function. To clean the ice-making system, add a vinegar solution and water to the reservoir and then make a batch of ice. Discard that batch and make two more with clean water. Discard those as well.
Another thing – check the operating temperature of the ice maker in the user manual. Ice makers don’t like heat, and if it’s too hot, the unit will either not make ice or will take much longer to make a batch of ice.
This is important if you plan to use the Frigidaire EFIC108 outdoors.
